At Temple Beth El – Delaware

Shabbat, Shalom! my friends.

The Rabi Jacob Lieberman, the one you see behind the lectern — here in the local synagogue in Newark, Delaware — cried for the first five minutes today (Saturday, Nov. 3.). He said little during those moments. Even went behind a wooden panel for a couple of minutes to take a hold on himself. A barbaric tragedy last Saturday in Pittsburg was of course the main reason. But it was the sight of two turbaned men present in the congregation “to express love and solidarity of Delaware’s Sikh community with our Jewish brothers and sisters” that might have been reason right then. The cause, the sight, that overwhelmed him and many others.

It was a powerful testimony to how your little — seemingly ordinary — steps can mean a world for others.

Shalom!

Ramadan Celebration

Ramadan Celebration

This year too during Ramadan, I had hosted an iftar dinner on June 5th for Delaware’s Muslims and other faith community members. I can’t describe the pleasure and honor I felt when a few local Turkish community’s children present amid 400 odd attendees suddenly came over to present me a gift. Not for iftar hosting. Something else. The gift’s richness for me was, and, is in the sweet and innocent gesture in which it was presented.

Visit to Bikaji Cama Place in New Delhi

After my computer engineering in 1992, my first job was in Bikaji Cama Place in New Delhi. Right next to Hyatt Regency — the luxurious five-star hotel, one of capital’s status symbols, at least so it was then.

With $32/month salary, I was struggling to eat, live and survive those days. Nevertheless, I always looked desirously at the hotel every day while waiting for DTC. I always wondered what needs to be done to be able to go in the hotel in a chauffeur driven car just like the people I enviously watched going in. Finally, I did it. This time we stayed here while in Delhi for three nights. And what a pleasure it was to meet my dear friend Geeta, Rohit and their children who drove all the way from Greater Noida. Not only that, they even hosted us for drinks and dinner in the hotel. Thanks, Dear Khannas!
